When I first got to the getaway weekend, I was just in a creative quick sand and honestly was sitting there just shuffling paper and snacking! I finally decided that I was going to just look for a sketch that I liked and jump in with that. This was where this layout was born.
This was based on a PageMaps sketch from Dec 2019. I wasn't sure exactly what direction I wanted to go with the picture and layout, but I kept coming back to this sketch and decided to just jump in and go for it.
You are probably wondering why there is a picture of Sheldon with his vet Dr. B and tech Sarah and celebrating a birthday. I haven't said much, but we have been on a rough road since Ella passed. Sheldon has been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease or CKD for short. We had been testing for it because some of his sibling had been diagnosed and we had determined there was a genetic risk for it. After we got back from Nationals in May, his kidney values (BUN, Creatine and Phosporus) started going in the wrong direction, so we knew he was affected also. His breeder (aka Meemaw) has been wonderful and there is no testing for it, but she notified everyone that had a puppy from the litter as soon as it seemed like it was genetic. As a result, Sheldon is also anemic and his hematocrit number dropped really low. We have been giving regular injections for it to help build his red blood count, but his number was still dropping. This picture was taken the week of his 8th birthday and his number had jumped several points. We were so excited.
Dr. B insisted that Sheldon sit on his lap for the picture! LOL You can tell that Sheldon wasn't quite as thrilled about that as Dr. B was. LOL LOL
And I am here to show you that you CAN combine dinos, sharks, and presents on a dog layout! I love all the ephemera and tags that you can get to go with the collection.
When I made this layout I didn't have the 6x6 paper pad, but I picked it up the next day. It would have really came in handy on this, but I made do!!
That big card was perfect to use as a "second" picture for the sketch. And it was a BIG celebration, so why not use it!! Just fyi, there was no cake here! Just hats!
That's all from me today, I will have to say this collection is one of my favorite birthday collections. It has all the things for boys...dogs, sharks, dinos and more! There is a girl collection also, so you may want to check that out too!!
Supplies
Here is a list of the supplies I used that are available from Scrapbook.com, Therm O Web, Waffle Flower Crafts, Gina K Designs, and Blick. If you purchase thru my links, which is no cost to you, it will help me to keep my content fresh and current. I would love the support if you feel like shopping!! (You can see my disclosure statement here). And the dogs would love it, because they might get a few more treats!
This was such a happy page. Then I read your blog. I have CKD and it took a while to understand that Sheldon was a dog. I lost my dog, Precious, to kidney disease. What an awesome vet you have!
